Producing problems

 

Everyone who has produced some music maybe stand in front of a problem and don`t know what to do. Same here. That’s the thing why I decide to describe some of my problems. I think there are some other ways to fix the problems but the described points have helped me.

Maybe it works for you too…

 

Durable disturb signal (Beep, chirp or akin)

First of all the advice: disturb signals you can previously circumvent. It´s possible that a connector is pluggin back to front in the jack. So keep an eye on it. With a jack with snubber you can see if there is something cabling wrong.

First at all you should listen to the disturb signal so that you understand what is the bug. Disturb signal (Beep, chirp…) from20 seconds the cannels of there Virus A comes up. So that’s why the sound is getting a bit more louder. To fix the problem, I have written uncountable E-mails to miscellaneous music stores in germany and comb through a lot of internet forums. I was on the point to buy a new soundcard till I try this:

1. test – bounce every output singel Result: every thing is ok.

2. test – Can I bounce channels of my Virus A Result: The recording is working without any problems. There is no disturb signal. You can even change the cutoff, resonanz and the other knobs while you are bouncing. All what you are doing while you recording will be recorded 1:1. So a composed automation can recorded without any problems too.

3. test – How sounds the analog channels of my soundcard (Motu 828 MK II)? To doing this I have connect a headphone to each analog channel of the soundcard. Result: Everything is clean!

4. test – How sound it on the headphone output on the soundcard? Result: The disturb signal is there.

5. test – How sounds it over the Digital Mixer if I connect a headphone on the mixer? Result: The disturb signal is always there and will always filtered out if you “bounce” it. It can`t be that you only can “bounce” to filter out the disturb signal. So I start some further tests.

6. test – How sound it if the computer is rebooted and the sequnezer (Logic) is closed. Result: Everything is clean.

7. test – What happens if I start the sequenzer (Logic) now? Result: The disturb signal comes up as soon as I start logic and the CoreAudio-driver will be loaded.

8. test – How sounds the digital channels of the soundcard? Result: Everything is clean!

So I came to the result that the disturb signal is between the analog soundcard outputs and the Inputs of the mixer. On the next step I have checked all cables and have to assert that I used a asymmetric multicore-cable between soundcard and mixer. So I ordered an symmetric cable and the bad sound was away!

So check your cable…;-) On me it works.

If this don`t work there are some other tools from the company www.artaudio.com. It is about cleanbox or different eleminators, which have very good characteristics. If your disturb signal is the same as mine, check your cables and change them eventually.

XXXX cross hatch on recording

Maybe you know this… You want to record and suddenly there are some curios cross hatch under the recorded block.

XXXX Schrafur in Producing problems

Throught to this the MIDI – adjustment can`t be changed.
A simple and helpful solution is the following one:

1) Click on Layer “Klick and Port”
2.) Now you create with NEW à Controller à Auto a fader
3.) With this you can connect the pys. Input of the Yamaha- Ports with the fader. The data will be filtered out and won`t come into your sequencer. Problem now is that you can`t record something from the yamaha unless it`s declared as official controller surface.

4.) Marking the fader.

5) In the parameterbox on the left side you can see among other things “Input”. This adjustment have to become “Sysex”. A editor is opening.
6.) Now click on the “IN-Symbol” on the left side on the top. Now the editor can “learn”.
7.) Close the editor
8.) In the parameterbox you change the “filter” through “conform”. The data will be filtered now.
9.) Now connect the Fader-Output (triangle on the right side on the top) with your Sequencer input “to Record&MIDI Thru”

The reports should won`t arrive.

On me it works with a yamaha 01V96 and a JD-800 by a friend.

Problem is: If the mixer sent everytime another report, it don`t work with this desciption. Only the Sysex-Value can change, no other adress.

 

Recording midi-signals in three traces directly

If you recording a beat live played with a Midikeyboard (kick, snear, hat…) you can record the midi signal directly to three traces for example.

In the enviroment you can arrange the midi-signal on channelstrips. On the “Pysical Input” are some transformer and this you change to “Condition splitter (true  top cable)” .

With the transformator you can take the notes from the output above, and set them to the channelstrips.
The others come to the sequencer Input. This looks like this: Midi in Producing problems

With putting the “ALT-Key” you can route the channelstrips or there will be opened a second window with the enviroment mixer and you drawing the cable simply to the channelstrips.

Attention, if you cable the channelstrips directly to the chosen channel in the arrangment isn`t relevant. The notes always archive directly to the cable channelstrips.

In this case this can be convenient, because Bass Drum and Snear or Snear and Hihat can played equipoise on there traces for example.

Or you make a intermediate step:
you record on a trace and then you splitt the events in pitch or the drumkit (in a way where it come from) that the apart sounds sent to different midi channels and than with a multi-recording conduct to different traces.

Another way is:
Open three software instruments or crate external midi tracks. Place all on the same input channel. Now adjust the key limiter parameter to each track and let`s start.   You can even feed a group for the 3 channelstrips. With this all 3 channelstrips can be    receptive coevally to record.

One character is that this function is rather for the play back. All notes will be written, that might be disagreeable. The written notes can also be erased.
